Villa of Riudecanyes guided tour

Riudecanyes, town of Baix Camp, is located in the interior of the region, between Argentera Mountain and Costa Dorada, 15 km from Reus.

This small municipality of just over 1,000 inhabitants became the capital of the Barony of Escornalbou, a jurisdictional territory created with the conquest of the Mountain of Escornalbou in the 12th century.

Nowadays Riudecanyes has several rural houses both in the village and in the surroundings, due to its proximity to the coast and the mountains, it is an ideal destination for those looking to escape from the hustle and bustle of the nearest cities. Its rural charm and natural surroundings offer the possibility of enjoying an interesting visit.

Itinerary

We will start at the Interpretation Centre Fruits of Landscape, which will bring us closer to the important agricultural activity in this area and, above all, to the world of olive oil, as Escornalbou Olive Oil is its star product. We will also have the opportunity to taste it during the visit. This space, located in the former facilities of the Cooperative, exhibits an old oil mill and a hydraulic press, as well as exhibition and audiovisual panels. Then, we will visit the old town whose streets receive curious names: the days of the week. We will also see the Renaissance Church of San Mateo, which preserves magnificent sgraffito on the vaults. Finally, we will walk to the reservoir, located only 10 minutes from the church. This reservoir was one of the first to be built in Catalonia. We will talk about its construction and the natural environment that surrounds it.
