Reus, Gaudí & Domènech i Muntaner

The city of Reus, with 107,000 inhabitants, is well known for its modernist heritage, the most important in the province of Tarragona.

The city is the birthplace of Gaudí and a place chosen by numerous renowned architects, such as Lluís Domènech and Montaner, who left his artistic mark in Reus with numerous works.

With this tour we will learn about two great geniuses of modernism: Gaudí and Domènech i Montaner. As for Gaudí we will talk about his origins: his family, his childhood in Reus, his time as a student, and everything that formed him as a person and as an architect. As for Domènech I Muntaner, we will see his works in the urban centre of Reus while we talk about his life and his general work.

Itinerary

We will start the visit in Gaudí Centre, a visitor centre located in the Plaça del Mercadal and dedicated to Gaudí. In this modern and interactive space we will discover models, audiovisuals and other resources that will help us to understand the genius of Gaudinian architecture. Next, we will take a walk through the centre of Reus and see the façade of the modernist Casa Navàs, by Lluís Domènech, located in the Plaça del Mercadal. Afterwards, we will go to Gaudí’s birthplace, where we will talk about his childhood and family history from the outside. Afterwards, we will continue with the façades of the modernist houses of Domènech and Montaner: Casa Rull and Casa Gasull, in  Sant Joan street, optionally we can visit the interior of Casa Gasull and attend a guided oil tasting, led by the owner and descendant of the Gasull’s.
