Papagayo: more than its beautiful beaches
The Papagayo Beaches are among the most visited, known and photographed places on the island of Lanzarote. These wonderful beaches of fine sand are located in one of the protected areas of the island: the Natural Monument of Los Ajaches, a place of great scenic and historical interest.
The route begins in the easternmost part of the small southern town of Playa Blanca. From our meeting point, we begin to walk through the massif, crossing coves and ravines, enjoying the views to Fuerteventura and Los Lobos, discovering curiosities about the flora and fauna of the island. In one of the beautiful coves in the area, we will have the opportunity to see the remains of the lime kilns up close and learn about the production of lime in Lanzarote.
We continue our adventure towards the Rubicón area, a place of historical interest as the city of Rubicón was founded here at the beginning of the 15th century, being then the first city of the modern era in the Canary Islands.
We continue our journey untill we reach the famous Papagayo Beach where we will have a refreshing drink while we enjoy the views.
After this short break, we start our way back to the starting point, while we continue discovering the wildest nature of the southern part of the island of Lanzarote.
