Living on the land of Riudecanyes
Riudecanyes is a small village of just over 1,100 inhabitants, located 15 km from Reus.
This corner of the Baix Camp is located in the interior of the region, an area dominated by fields of crops and fruit trees such as olive trees.
Riudecanyes is well known for the cultivation of the Arbequina olive tree and for the quality of its oil. Most of its people live from this traditional activity. Both the cultivation of the olives and the production of the oil are done according to the criteria of the Siurana DO, a designation that guarantees the highest quality of the product.
Itinerary
With this olive oil tour we will enter the world of the olive tree and the olive oil. We will start in an olive grove where we will do a guided tour of approximately 40 minutes, to know about the characteristics of the arbequina variety, cultivation, harvest, etc. The olive grove is located in the municipality of Montbrió del Camp.
Then, we will go to Riudecanyes, located 5 km from the olive grove. Here we will visit the Fruits of the Landscape Interpretation Centre. This space is located in the former facilities of the Cooperative, which currently exhibits an old oil mill and a hydraulic press, as well as exhibition and audiovisual panels. At the end of the visit you can taste the Escornalbou Extra Virgin Olive Oil, made in Riudecanyes.
